Research

The Laboratory proposes a unique research-creation methodology based on four principles:

  • Orientation towards practice and participative observation: the starting point of our methodology is the irreducibility of lived experience, which needs to be captured and described by each participant. All Laboratory participants are therefore co-investigators whose self-observation, creations, and reflections contribute to the research on how the arts generate understanding of spiritual experience.

  • Collaboration and interdisciplinary work: the Laboratory offers different spaces for collaborative work aimed at both interdisciplinary artistic exploration and a dialogue between philosophy, the arts, and the social sciences.

  • Reflexivity and dialogical understanding: the Laboratory uses tools such as diaries, dialogue exercises, interviews, and the elaboration of auto-ethnographic texts as means for describing one's own spiritual and creative processes and for subsequent reflection.

  • Pluralism: The Laboratory’s pluralistic, non-denominational view of spiritual experience and searching opens spaces for different orientations, traditions, and practices. Respect for a diversity of perspectives is a fundamental principle in all Laboratory spaces.

"The laboratory has been for me a process of rationalizing intuition, that thing which is not named or written but happens in me. Now I try to rationalize it, to write it down, to share it and to make it explicit. It has been a process that has cost me effort, but it has allowed me to build a bridge between myself and my work. I am interpreting my processes so that I can share them." (Angelica)

"El hecho de estar pensando y escribiendo acerca de la música, el sonido, y la espiritualidad crea un diálogo constante alrededor de estas preguntas, una reflexión que en mi caso no siempre se plasmaba en un diario, sino que se quedaba normalmente en monólogos que fácilmente se perdían con el paso del tiempo."  (Alejandro)
